BRMCA Publishes Three Cost Model Studies on Commercial, Housing and School Buildings

The British Ready-mixed Concrete Association have published 3 cost model studies on Commercial, Hospital and School Buildings, examining ready-mixed concrete design options versus steel and precast, highlighting the cost advantages of ready-mixed concrete, the programme advantages of ready-mixed concrete and the benefits of ready-mixed concrete in terms of Cost-in-Use, Acoustics, Fire, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.

- In-situ reinforced concrete is 5.1% cheaper than the equivalent steel option in terms of overall construction costs
- Post-tensioned in-situ concrete is 7.2% cheaper than the equivalent steel option in terms of overall construction costs
- Post-tensioned in-situ concrete is 6.8% cheaper than the equivalent steel option in terms of overall construction costs

The British Ready-mixed Concrete Association have recently produced the following guidance documents offering best practice advice to both contractors and the DIY market in terms of utilising the correct concrete design for the job: Concretes for Housing and Concretes for Agricultural Use.
